Spouse: Elizabeth Shipp

Nickname: Ike

Isaac Shipp was born into slavery. Therefore, there is no record of him by first and last name before the 1870 census. According to the 1860 slave census, a plantation owner in Chattahoochee County, William Wesley (W.W.) Shipp, owned two 12 year old male slaves. Isaac Shipp would have been 10-13 years of age at this time. However, slaves were property, not people, so they are listed only by age, race, and gender. Therefore, it cannot be verified whether either of these slaves were Isaac Shipp.

1910 United States Federal Census
about Ike Shipp

On the 1910 census, Isaac (Ike) Shipp is listed as living alone but still married.

On the 1910 census, Isaac (Ike) Shipp indicated he had 7 children of which 4 are still living. Isaac does not count Harvey Shipp as one of his children by birth although he adopted him. This confirms what Elizabeth Shipp indicated on the 1900 census about having 8 children. Two of their children for whom we have no name must have been born and died in between censuses.
